Episode 19. Infertility and Other Questions

This week on Talk Sex With Dick, NYC Sex Therapist Dr. Richard Mills answers questions from listeners about issues of infertility, swinging parents, struggles with being a gay Christian and interfaith relationships.

But first, he takes you on a journey of his annual adult gay slumber Princess inspired birthday party, restrictions to the charging brokers fees in New York City, and his 39th birthday celebration where he was not able to get into the club. However, on this journey he did discover the Book Club, (a hidden gem on the Lower East Side) where he picked up New York Times bestseller “The Body Keep Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in The Healing of Trauma” by Bessel van der Kolk while on his way to have brunch at Root & Bone.

The first listener from Des Moines, wrote in to the show expressing sadness because she recently discovered she and her husband are struggling with infertility, saying “I feel my genetics have played a crew joke!” She’s contemplating if she should take things into her own hands – asking her sister to donate an egg, but realizes that is most likely not an option. Struggling through emotional discontent and fear of their future, Richard address the concerns of infertility and provides a step-by-step breakdown of the deeper attachments and meanings to being a parent, and examines how this situation can be placed within the context of grief and loss of a dream, of their future, but most importantly how to pick up the pieces that feel broken and difficult to face at this time.

Another listener from Maine is distraught after discovering their parents are swingers, while another listener from Louisiana is struggling with being a gay Christian and wonders if he will eventually find his soulmate who shares the same faith. Finally, one listener from New Jersey expresses their love and admiration for the show, believes they have a story to tell but unsure how to do it, if it’s relevant or if anyone would listen.
