Episode 32: Mama Needs a Boo: Surviving Dating in a Post-Divorce World

Talk Sex with Dick episode 32

This week on Talk Sex With Dick, Sex Therapist Dr. Richard Mills talks with Asa Scott who discusses the dating in a post divorce world.

Working toward improving the quality of her life and figuring out who she is since her divorce that was finalized earlier this year.  Asa discusses learning what her preference are in men.

Understanding who she is, she was able to learn from her past mistakes.  The most important thing she now understands is the role she played in contributing to the toxicity that was present in those relationships.

Going into detail, she talks about the ways in which she has been working to improve the quality of her life after divorce.

Confronting her experiences and looking at ways to grow, she has learned the valued importance of going into therapy and actively engaging in life.

Change and re-evaluation was needed….

Together we explore the physical changes that occur in our bodies, which serves as a remind that that we are no longer in our twenties.

Talking about the changes in her own life, she discusses the concept of multi-dating.  She makes clear this is not sleeping with a bunch of different people but dating multiple people after her divorce.

Diving in further she goes into specifics about what she wants in a man.

She discussed the realization that all of her friends are either married, getting married or in committed relationships.

This has her questioning her need to find a quality boo.

As a BIPOC woman dating can be difficult…

We discussed her recently dating experience with a white man. While she liked him as a person, the value differences were present.  Specifically, his non-reaction to the Black Lives Matter protest that have been taking place.

She discovered that she needs someone who is emotionally available.  Specifically, someone who is socially conscious of her experiences as a black woman.

Diving further into this recent experience, she discussed how he ghosted her during this time of civil unrest.

She understands that she needs someone who will not only be present for her as a person, but also someone who will stand along her, protest with her, and be vocal about her needs as a black woman.

And other stuff…
