This week on Talk Sex with Dick, this episode takes place at the renowned Bergdorf Goodman where Dr. Dick and Asa discuss the upcoming book release of Afternoon at Bergdorf’s.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s…
Prior to venturing off to Bergdorf Goodman, Asa and Richard discuss their experiences of going to Tiffany & Co., where she purchased a gift for a friend. As they wrapped the gift with care, Richard talks about how good it feels to have popped his Tiffany’s cherry.
Sex at Bergdorf’s….
After leaving Tiffany & Co. they walked over to Bergdorf Goodman, where they treated themselves to pampering and lunch at the breathtaking BGs Diner where they discussed the complexities of the world over a bottle of wine, some light appetizers, and delicious entrées.
While enjoying the views of the city from the 7th floor at Bergdorf’s – looking toward Park Avenue and Central Park East, Asa asks Richard a variety of questions about the upcoming release of Afternoon At Bergdorf’s – a fictional novel that merges the themes of Sunset Boulevard and American Psycho.
Richard discusses his experiences writing this book, its inspiration, character development of Katheryn York and Joe Tiller, and dealing with difficult issues when writing (i.e., racism, sexism white privilege, and xenophobia).
He mentions how the majority of this book was written on the subway while commuting to and from Manhattan College where he teaches graduate students.
Asa talks about the black experience, of which Richard observed when they were followed around Bergdorf’s by one of the employees.
While dining they sat next to what appeared Donatella Versace’s double, which made the experience seem all the more inviting.
After lunch, Richard took a picture of his book next to others sold at Bergdorf’s – e.g., Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s and The Bergdorf Goodman Cookbook. He hopes Afternoon at Bergdorf’s will one day be added to their collection.
After Bergdorf’s….
Their adventure did not end at Bergdorf’s. Finding themselves in the West Village they stuffed their faces with tortilla chips and salsa. Asa tells how she was mistaken for a celebrity by one of the women who was having tea at BG’s Diner, who ask for her signature in the bathroom at Bergdorf’s. Asa makes clear that not all black women look alike.
And other stuff…
