On this week of Talk Sex With Dick, NYC Sex Therapist Dr. Richard Mills answers a series of questions ranging from golden showers, erectile dysfunction, to loving someone with HIV. For confidentiality purposes the names and identities of these indviduals have been changed to protect their identities.
The first person, from Toledo writes about a quandary they are experiencing in their relationship. While they love their partner they recently discovered they like golden showers, which appears to be causing emotional distress. Dr. Dick explains to the audience the nature of golden showers and how what the listener is experiencing is related to a breakdown in communication and the need to express sexual needs and desires. He goes on to discuss the importance for having these conversations and ways to provide an open and affirming space to explore sexual desire. He explains how conversations about sex can cause discomfort, however, the use of a sexual menu can help navigate uncomfortable conversations about sex.
The next person, from Lost Angelas, is experiencing distress because their partner is experiencing Erectile Dysfunction (ED), that has created a level of concern, as they wonder if the relationship can move forward. Dr. Dick discusses how many men will use medicated assisted therapies from companies such as Hims and Roman, as the first line of defense to treat ED. He urges anyone experiencing sexual dysfunction to examine the deeper issues associated with ED. He explains his work with men who experience symptoms of ED, and the importance of understanding the relationship between anxiety and sexual performance.
