Episode 18. HBO Max Legendary

This week on Talk Sex With Dick, NYC Sex Therapist Dr. Richard Mills speaks with Shant Tutnjian, Armenian co-Creator and Executive Producer of HBO Max Legendary – an upcoming unscripted reality television series.  He explains the difference between scripted vs. unscripted reality television, the upcoming taping of Legendary that is scheduled to launch sometime in April 2020.

HBO Max Legendary is a competitive voguing reality competition television show, that was inspired by the film Paris Is Burning. While there will be many surprises throughout the season, a house of transgender individuals will snatch trophies and compete like there’s no tomorrow, to receive the title of Legend.

Shant talks about how the show was inspired, and while he isn’t a dancer he’s attended balls in the past and completely moved by the art, fashion and expressions of the human spirit by those who’ve competed in balls in NYC and around the world.  He discussed how he felt in those environments, which led him to brining this experience within the homes of America and around the world – that everyone will have the opportunity to witness and experience this breath taking form of art.

Richard talks about his own experiences dancing and wonders if he could ever compete on a show like HBO Max Legendary, but unsure if he could pull off moves like the death drop or duck walk. He talks about his experiences of winning his 8th grade dance competition, but later rejected from a high school show choir, and considers auditioning for Legendary to prove himself to the folks back home in Indiana and the world.

Shant ends the episode discussing his preparation to leave Hollywood and begin filming in NYC, embracing the New York winter elements, and speaks about his experience of growing up gay and Armenian, the gay dating scene in Los Angelas, Adam Schiff’s support for the Armenian community, Armenian food and culture, sexual health, the Kardashians, Bjork, Tori Amos, Rhye, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, AOC, celebrity sightings in Hollywood, and other influencers of queer culture.
