Episode 24: Joining the Mile High Club and Conscious Coupling During an Epidemic

This week on Talk Sex With Dick, NYC Sex Therapist Dr. Richard Mills talks about the Mile High Club and Conscious Coupling from 30,000 feet in the air.  At the last minute he fled the chaos of social distancing in NYC and hopped a flight to Los Angeles, with his partner Chris and two fur children – Al and Bob Noodle.

This recording takes place on an Alaska Air flight, where he and his partner  Chris talk about the experience of quarantining for the past five weeks in NYC, and why they decided to leave. Using one microphone, they share the story of how they met, how they didn’t initially like each other, the struggles of being in a long distance relationship, and transitioning living together in NYC.

They discuss the current state of NYC, quarantining and how the past five weeks has reminded them of living in their first apartment that was the size of a walk in closet.  They talk about their journey of collecting Al from a shelter and later Bob Noodle through a Puppy Kitty NYC.

The Mile High Club comes up in discussion and they both wonder if it’s something that happens in  real life or a myth that is shared. Richard walks through the logistics and difficulties of having sex in a laboratory bathroom– regardless if its gay vs. straight sex. While they’ve chosen not to join the Mile High Club at this time, they both agree that if you’re going to do it – do it in the time of COVID-19, when there are less than 20 people aboard a flight.

The rest of this episode discusses areas such as conscious coupling while in quarantine, learning how to maintain a social life with friends during the pandemic, working from home, challenges of spending too much time together, navigating different television interest while in quarantine, Kim Kardashian West, and her relevance to the Armenian community, the Armenian Genocide, The Promise, Adam Schiff, why Cher isn’t on Cameo, and much more…
